_MG_9094Artistic practice:

With a background in Fine Art, Sculpture, I have pursued my career in the arts through exhibitions, installations and site specific, participatory projects. I respond to location, often exploring identity through family links. Audience participation plays an increasing and diverse role in the development of the work.

When considering a project I strive to distil the intention, so that site, materials and viewer’s encounter with the piece are all considered. I continue to select opportunities that challenge me to create new pieces for specific spaces whether indoor or outside. Responding to sites through research whilst balancing personal visual language lies at the heart of my practice.

Teaching experience:

Since gaining a PGCE in Art and Design I have 30 years experience of teaching in schools, colleges, museums and galleries. I have been a Specialist and part of the Learning team at Tate St Ives for 18 years, and regularly lecture at Cornwall College on the Contemporary Creative Practice FdA and B.A. course.  I have worked as Education Officer for arts organisations and set up and delivered wide ranging programmes connected to national and international exhibitions. Over the years I have initiated, fundraised and delivered a number of education projects for a cross section of community groups. Through participation, elements of my creative practice have often come together with education projects resulting in large-scale, multimedia installations. In the last 3 years I have been a visual artist on Story Republic contributing to the installations and art workshops. I draw on the breadth of experiences encountered to date, when working with community groups to match the activity to the nature, ability and expectations of the participants.

Community and Collaborative Projects:

Over the years I have been contributing to local festivals in Cornwall, by building giant imagery out of willow and mixed media.  I have also worked as part of a team for WOMAD, both in the UK and abroad running children’s workshops and constructing processional imagery.

Collaborations are also a feature of my practice and I have been commissioned to work as a visual artist for companies such as Dance Republic2, CScapeWildworks and RIO.

I am Project Manager at Tough Dough.
